SMS is the left over root network called mycelium. The production of mushrooms by the mycelium is done for reproduction. Spent-Mushroom-Substrate is a by-product of horticultural mushroom production. SMS is complex in composition and contains valuable bioactive compounds. 

The composition of SMS is not generic and depends highly on strain, substrate composition, post-crop handling and the cultivation process itself.

SMS has been studied in scientific literature and has been used as fertilizer, for waste and water treatment, bio-remediation efforts like the remediation of mining contaminated soil, for renewable energy, source of enzymes with industrial relevance, discovery of compounds with medical applications and as possible building material.

Tromsopp will put a strong effort into finding beneficial applications for the produced SMS and the produced Mushrooms in the local area and society to create long-term sustainable solutions to current problems and problems coming our way in the future.
